About the Organization
The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, has launched the Prime Minister Research Chair (PMRC) Scheme, a Central Sector Scheme to strengthen India's research ecosystem. The scheme connects globally accomplished Indian-origin researchers with premier government higher education institutions and national laboratories to promote high-impact research, innovation, mentorship, and international collaboration.
About the Fellowship
The PMRC Scheme will engage researchers under three categories:
- Young Research Fellows
- Senior Fellows
- Research Chairs
Research activities will be undertaken in 13 national priority sectors, including Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Semiconductors, Biotechnology, Healthcare, Cybersecurity, Advanced Materials, Space & Defence, Manufacturing, Climate Change, and other strategic areas. Fellows will collaborate with Host Institutions to conduct research, mentor students, develop innovations, publish high-impact research, and facilitate technology transfer.

Eligibility Criteria
Be working at reputed international universities, research institutes, laboratories, or industries.
Demonstrate outstanding research through publications, patents, citations, awards, and innovation.
Be willing to undertake research, teaching, mentoring, and innovation activities at approved Host Institutions.
Meet the category-specific post-PhD experience:
Young Research Fellow: Up to 5 years
Senior Fellow: 5 to less than 10 years
Research Chair: 10 years or more post-PhD experience.
