About the Position

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at NIT Calicut is recruiting a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) / Project Associate-I for a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) sponsored research project. The project focuses on the experimental investigation of galvanic and stray current corrosion in marine bronze under the influence of micro-structural features in a simulated marine atmosphere.

The selected candidate will work on advanced materials engineering research involving corrosion analysis, metallurgical characterization, and experimental investigations. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain research experience in defence-related materials science while working with experienced faculty and state-of-the-art laboratory facilities.


Roles & Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

  • Conduct experimental research related to corrosion engineering.
  • Perform characterization of metallic materials and microstructures.
  • Carry out laboratory testing under simulated marine environments.
  • Analyze experimental data and prepare technical reports.
  • Assist in project implementation and documentation.
  • Support publication of research findings and project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with the principal investigator and research team throughout the project duration.

Desirable Qualification

Preference will be given to candidates having:

  • Knowledge of microstructural characterization.
  • Understanding of corrosion analysis.
  • Experience in materials testing and characterization techniques.

Fellowship & Benefits

Selected candidates will receive:

  • ₹37,000 per month + 20% HRA for candidates possessing a valid GATE score in Mechanical, Materials, Production, or Chemical Engineering.

OR

  • ₹30,000 per month + 20% HRA for candidates not meeting the GATE eligibility criteria.

Financial Support

Eligibility Criteria

First Class Master's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Production Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of microstructural characterization and corrosion analysis.

Test Scores Accepted

GATE (preferred for higher fellowship).
