About the Position

The Department of Biotechnology at NIT Andhra Pradesh is inviting applications for one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) to work on the DBT-sponsored project titled:

"Process Development for the Production of Value-Added, Low-Alcoholic Kodo Ko Jannr – A Traditional Millet-Based Fermented Functional Food of Northeast India."

The project aims to develop innovative processing technologies for traditional millet-based fermented foods, improve nutritional value, promote functional food development, and support sustainable food biotechnology research. The selected fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Jagan Mohan Rao T. (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Seenivasan A. (Co-Principal Investigator).


Roles & Responsibilities

The selected Junior Research Fellow will:

  • Conduct research on traditional millet-based fermented functional foods.
  • Develop and optimize fermentation processes.
  • Handle microbial cultures, including screening, preservation, maintenance, and culturing.
  • Perform laboratory experiments and data analysis.
  • Prepare technical reports and research publications.
  • Assist in achieving project objectives under the DBT-funded research programme.
  • Collaborate with the research team for successful project execution.

Who Can Apply

Candidates possessing the following qualifications are eligible:

  • First Class B.E./B.Tech. and M.E./M.Tech. in Biotechnology or Chemical Engineering.
  • OR M.Sc. in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).
  • Qualified GATE or National Level Eligibility Test such as DBT, ICMR, ICAR, etc.
  • Candidates from centrally funded institutes with M.Sc./M.Tech. (CGPA 7.5 or above) may also apply without GATE.
  • Final semester M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc. students may apply, subject to fulfilling eligibility before joining.

Desired Skills

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Experience in microbial culture handling.
  • Knowledge of screening, preservation, maintenance, and culturing techniques.
  • Good scientific writing and communication skills.
  • Statistical analysis and report writing experience.
  • Research interest in food biotechnology and fermentation technology.

Fellowship & Benefits

The selected candidate will receive:

  • Fellowship of ₹37,000 per month during the first two years.
  • Fellowship of ₹42,000 per month during the third year.
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA) at 10% as per institute rules.

Eligibility Criteria

First Class B.E./B.Tech. and M.E./M.Tech. in Biotechnology or Chemical Engineering, or M.Sc. in a relevant discipline with minimum required marks and valid national eligibility qualification. Candidates from centrally funded institutes with CGPA 7.5 or above may also apply without GATE. Final semester postgraduate students are also eligible subject to fulfilling conditions before joining.

Test Scores Accepted

GATE, DBT, ICMR, ICAR, or any equivalent National Level Eligibility Examination.
