About the Organization
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is an intergovernmental life sciences research organisation with laboratories and research sites across Europe. EMBL conducts molecular biology research, develops advanced scientific technologies, and supports training and research infrastructure development.
About the Fellowship
ARISE2 stands for Career Accelerator for Research Infrastructure Scientists. It is an MSCA-funded postdoctoral fellowship programme designed for STEM researchers who want to use technology and method development expertise to advance life sciences.
The 2026 call offers 17 fellowships for three years. Fellows work on the development or improvement of scientific technologies and methods that can support researchers and become integrated into research infrastructures. The programme includes specialised training, career development, service provision experience, and external secondments.
How to Apply

- Complete the official ARISE2 application form.
- Develop a research project proposal using the prescribed project template.
- Complete the Horizon Europe ethics self-evaluation.
- Identify and contact a participating EMBL supervisor to discuss the project idea.
- Convert the completed application form and project proposal with ethics prescreen into a single PDF.
- Submit the application through the official online application portal.
- Ensure that at least one and up to three references are submitted by the deadline.
Who Can Apply
Applicants should:
- Hold a PhD by the applicable call deadline, including candidates who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but are awaiting formal degree award.
- Have prior experience in technology or method development.
- Have expertise relevant to EMBL research infrastructures and life science services.
- Be interested in developing or improving technologies for life science research.
- Meet the ARISE2 mobility requirements.
- Have no more than the permitted prior association with EMBL under the programme mobility rules.
- Submit the mandatory application, project, and ethics documentation.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates should demonstrate experience in technology or method development relevant to life science research infrastructures. Applicants from STEM backgrounds with expertise in scientific technologies, computational methods, AI, machine learning, data science, bioinformatics, imaging, robotics, automation, engineering, or related fields may apply depending on the proposed project and participating EMBL host. Mobility and programme requirements also apply.
