GATE 2027 Registration – Apply Online, Eligibility & Last Date

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has opened the online registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. GATE is a national-level examination conducted jointly by IISc and the IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Eligible candidates can complete the GATE 2027 application form online through the official GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).

The GATE 2027 regular registration deadline is 27 September 2026, without a late fee. Candidates who miss the regular deadline can submit their applications with a late fee until 5 October 2026. Candidates are advised to complete their applications before the deadline and carefully check all details before final submission.

GATE 2027 Eligibility

Candidates who are currently studying in the third year or higher of an eligible undergraduate degree programme, or candidates who have already completed a government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities, can appear for GATE 2027, subject to the applicable eligibility requirements.

Candidates from various qualifying programmes, including B.E., B.Tech., B.Pharm., B.Arch., B.Sc., B.A., B.Com., BCA, M.Sc., M.A., MCA and other eligible programmes, may be eligible to appear for the examination. Candidates should check the official eligibility criteria before applying.

GATE 2027 Examination

GATE 2027 will be conducted in multiple test papers covering different disciplines. IIT Madras has also introduced Robotics and Automation (RA) as a new GATE test paper for 2027. The official website also provides updated syllabus information and details regarding two-paper combinations.

GATE scores can be used for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes in participating institutions, subject to the admission requirements of the respective institute. GATE scores may also be considered by several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment.

How to Apply for GATE 2027

Eligible candidates can apply for GATE 2027 through the official GOAPS portal. Applicants should keep the required personal, academic and identification details ready before starting the application process.

For Indian nationals, registration through DigiLocker is part of the GATE 2027 application process. Candidates should ensure that their DigiLocker information and required documents are available and accurate before completing the application.

Complete the registration and application details.
Select the required GATE test paper or permitted two-paper combination.
Upload the required documents and photograph/signature as applicable.
Pay the prescribed application fee.
Review the application carefully.

Save or download the submitted application and payment confirmation for future reference.
