INAT 2027 Registration – Apply Online, Eligibility, Exam Date and Last Date

The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune has announced the IUCAA National Admission Test (INAT) 2027 for admission and selection to postgraduate and doctoral programmes in Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics.

INAT 2027 will be used for selection to the Ph.D. programmes in Astronomy/Astrophysics and Physics at IUCAA. It will also be used for admission to the SPPU-IUCAA Joint M.Sc. (Physics with Astrophysics) programme.

Eligible candidates can submit their application online through the official INAT 2027 application portal.

The last date to submit the INAT 2027 application form is 30 November 2026. Candidates are advised to complete their applications before the deadline and carefully verify all information before final submission.

The INAT 2027 written examination will be conducted in various cities across India. Candidates appearing for the written test must carry their valid admit letter and required identification documents.

INAT 2027 Eligibility

For the Ph.D. scholarship, candidates who have completed or expect to complete an M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Electronics or Astronomy, or a B.E./B.Tech./M.E./M.Tech. degree in any branch by July 2027, with at least 55% marks, are eligible to apply.

Candidates completing a B.Sc. degree in Physics with Mathematics up to the second year, or a B.E./B.Tech. degree in any branch with at least 55% marks, may apply for the SPPU-IUCAA Joint M.Sc. (Physics with Astrophysics) programme.

Talented students in their final year of B.Sc., first year of M.Sc., third/fourth year of Integrated M.Sc., or second/third year of B.E./B.Tech. may also apply for pre-selection to the Ph.D. programme at IUCAA.

A 5% relaxation in the qualifying marks, from 55% to 50%, is applicable to candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) categories.

INAT 2027 Selection Process

The selection process depends on the programme applied for.

For the IUCAA Ph.D. programme, candidates are screened based on their applications and shortlisted candidates are invited to appear for the INAT written test. Based on written-test performance, a limited number of candidates are called for two interview rounds. Final selection for the Ph.D. research scholarship is based on the combined performance in the written test and interviews.

For the SPPU-IUCAA Joint M.Sc. (Physics with Astrophysics) programme, selection is based on the candidate's performance in the INAT written test.

INAT 2027 Written Examination

The INAT 2027 written test will be of two hours duration and the question paper will be in English.

The examination will cover areas including Physics, Mathematics, Electronics and Engineering, ranging from basic to advanced topics.

The written test consists of three parts:

• Part A: Basic Physics, Mathematics and Engineering
• Part B: Basic and advanced areas of Physics, Mathematics and Engineering with integer-type questions
• Part C: Advanced Physics, Mathematics and Engineering

Parts A and C contain objective questions with negative marking, while Part B consists of integer-type questions without negative marking.

INAT 2027 Written Test Date

The INAT 2027 written examination is scheduled to be conducted on Sunday, 17 January 2027, at 10:00 AM in various cities across India.

Candidates must report to their assigned examination centre with the required documents, including the INAT admit letter and an original photo identification document such as Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, Driving Licence, College ID or Passport.

No walk-in candidates will be allowed to enter the INAT 2027 written examination without a valid admit letter.

Candidates can apply for INAT 2027 through the official IUCAA online application system.

The application process involves two main steps:

1. Visit the official INAT 2027 website.
2. Register using a valid name and email address.
3. Receive the application password through email.
4. Log in using the registration details.
5. Complete the online application form.
6. Enter the required academic and personal information.
7. Provide referee details where applicable.
8. Upload the required information/documents.
9. Review the application carefully.
10. Submit the completed application before 30 November 2026.
11. Save the Online ID and application confirmation for future reference.

Only online applications are accepted for INAT 2027; postal or email applications are not accepted.

INAT 2027 provides an admission pathway for the following programmes:

Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics:
Selection is through the INAT written test followed by two interview rounds at IUCAA, Pune.

SPPU-IUCAA Joint M.Sc. (Physics with Astrophysics):
Selection is based on the INAT written-test score and is intended for eligible candidates completing their qualifying undergraduate degree during the 2026–2027 academic year.
