About the Programme
The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, and the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), Taipei, Taiwan, have announced the Joint Call for Research Proposals 2026. The initiative is designed to promote bilateral cooperation in social sciences and humanities by supporting collaborative research projects between Indian and Taiwanese researchers. The programme encourages the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and research findings while strengthening academic ties between the two countries.
Researchers from India and Taiwan are expected to jointly develop and submit research proposals addressing themes of mutual interest and societal relevance. The selected projects will contribute to international collaboration, capacity building, and high-quality research outcomes.

These areas have been identified to encourage interdisciplinary and internationally relevant research collaborations.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants from India must:
- Be employed in a recognized academic or research institution.
- Hold a PhD or equivalent qualification.
- Be associated with a publicly funded university, college, deemed university recognized by UGC, publicly funded research institute, or ICSSR-recognized institution.
- Demonstrate a strong research background through publications, academic achievements, and previous research experience.
Research Collaboration Requirements
- Proposals must be jointly prepared by Indian and Taiwanese Principal Investigators.
- Separate applications must be submitted to ICSSR and NSTC by the respective researchers.
- Applications submitted by only one side will not be considered.
- The project should focus on themes of mutual interest and contribute to strengthening India–Taiwan academic cooperation.
Funding Support
Selected projects will receive financial support for collaborative research activities and researcher mobility. The programme supports academic exchange visits and joint research efforts between participating institutions in India and Taiwan. Previous calls under this programme provided funding support of up to ₹12 lakh per project, subject to the approved guidelines and budget provisions.
