UGC Invites Applications from HEIs for ODL and Online Programme Recognition 2026-27

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a Public Notice inviting fresh online applications from eligible Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) seeking recognition to offer programmes through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and/or Online mode for the academic year 2026-27, with the academic session commencing from January–February 2027 and onwards.

📢 Key Highlights

UGC has invited applications in accordance with the UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020 and its amendments. Eligible HEIs can submit applications through the UGC Distance Education Bureau (DEB) portal.

📝 Important Instructions

• The online application window for the specified cycle is open from 1 September 2026 to 15 September 2026.
• The original affidavit and required annexures must be submitted in hard copy by 25 September 2026.
• The prescribed application fee and further updates are available through the UGC DEB website.
• Submission of an application does not automatically constitute approval or recognition. Applications will be scrutinized against the standards and requirements prescribed under the applicable UGC regulations.
• The application window is also stated to remain open throughout the year for HEIs entitled to offer Online programmes and Category-I HEIs entitled to offer ODL programmes.
