India's Research Output Reaches New Heights
Indian researchers published a record 147 papers in the prestigious Nature and Science family of journals in 2025, marking a 40% increase from the previous year's count of 105 papers.
Leading Institutions
IISc Bangalore led with 23 publications, followed by IIT Bombay (18), TIFR Mumbai (15), and IIT Delhi (14). The contributions spanned diverse fields including quantum computing, materials science, climate research, and biotechnology.
Government Initiatives
The increase is attributed to enhanced research funding through the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), which allocated Rs. 50,000 crores for research over the next 5 years.
SERB's Early Career Research Award and INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship have been instrumental in supporting young researchers.
