About the Award
The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has opened the nominations for the National Awards to Teachers 2026. This prestigious initiative aims to recognize and celebrate excellence in teaching, innovation, research, mentorship, and outstanding contributions toward nation-building through higher education. The award is open to regular faculty members serving in colleges, universities, higher educational institutions (HEIs), and polytechnics across India.
Eligibility Criteria
Before applying or nominating, please ensure the candidate fulfills the following prescribed eligibility criteria:
- Employment Status: The nominee must be a regular faculty member of a recognized college, university, higher educational institution, or polytechnic in India.
- Experience: Candidates must possess at least five years of full-time teaching experience at the Undergraduate (UG) and/or Postgraduate (PG) level.
- Age Limit: The nominee should NOT be above 55 years of age as on the last date of submission of nominations.
- Exclusions: Vice-Chancellors, Directors, and Principals are not eligible to apply for this award.
Nomination Process
Both self-nominations and nominations submitted by academic peers or institutional heads are accepted. All nominations must be completed and submitted online through the official government awards portal before the closing deadline.
